Communication Tips
Tips for communicating with patients, children, parents and hospital staff.
While visiting the hospital areas, please be sensitive to patient's feelings. Here are some suggestions that will help you converse confidently with anyone you may come in contact with.
What NOT to say :
(These questions sound friendly but could be hurtful in some cases.)
How are you today?
What are you in here for?
How long will you be here?
When do you get to go home?
What TO say:
(These positive statements will always be welcomed)
I'm SO glad to see you today
It's nice to see you today.
Thank you for asking about my playing, instrument, etc.
I'm glad you enjoy it.
It's nice to meet you
I've enjoyed being able to play for you.
